Press Release – For Immediate Release

“The Crown mobilised their armed forces against Northern Maori in the 1840’s, they moved against the people of Parihaka in 1881, they did it again at Bastion Point in 1978, and now,” said Hone Harawira, Independent MP for the Tai Tokerau, “the Crown has ordered the Navy and the Air Force to move against Te Whanau a Apanui, Ngäti Porou and Greenpeace who are opposed to government’s deal allowing Petrobras to survey for oil in the Raukumara Basin, and demonstrated that opposition by stopping the survey ships off the East Cape.

“And in case people aren’t sure what the real issue is,” said Harawira “it’s not about the right of to go about their ‘legal’ activity, it’s about the rights of the iwi to protect their foreshore and seabed, and the rights of New Zealanders to a clean and healthy future for their grandchildren.”

“The deafening silence you hear is the Maori Party, who, having voted for the Marine and Coastal Area Bill, is now locked into supporting the rape and pillage of New Zealand’s coast by Petrobras and other overseas companies lining up to get on the block.

“I support the stand taken by Te Whanau a Apanui and Ngati Porou, and I am asking the iwi leaders up north to reaffirm their own opposition to deep-sea drilling, because as sure as night follows day, government will be letting Petrobras loose in our seas as soon as they’ve finished down the East Coast.”

the government wants to turn us in to a third world country.they are getn us in dept , borrowing and loaning millions and paying up our sea bed or wats under it rather to pay there depts. their plans to drill are gonna destroy our country./ look at japan they aint too far from us geographically

      • peri-paraihe says:

the Govt are subject to their Masters those elected are just puppets for those who are really in control of this country. they have always wanted to tap the real wealth of maori for nearly 2 centuries except they keep hitting brick walls? how you wonder? its simple they keep cutting their heads off and all newly elected politicians find that out once they dig deeper. evidence is late 1700…..1835….. 1840…….. 1903……. 1946…….. 1986……. 1993……2002……2009……2011..2012 research these years to find the truth ,as we all have been lied to especially kiwis/nzers

  6. Te Paea says:

We the indidgenous people of Aotearoa should be laying down the rules and laws not that friggin John Key prickhead, he wants to get it right and honour the TREATY!!!!!!!!

  7. Anon says:

Hone, you really are a bit of a Fu*kwit, you know that? And anyone who’s prepared to take what you say seriously anymore is a Fu*kwit too. We’re trying to boost our rather weak economy here, and if you care so much about land that’s a kilometre under the sea, why don’t you do us all a favor and go live down there.

    • peri-paraihe says:

Anon. you are like every other nzer/kiwi your ignorant to the facts. if any1 should disappear it should be you ignoranus. we have a weak economy because the people elected by you have mismanaged this nations finance and wealth, where absolute power is absolute corruption soon follows. nz is built on corruption deceit lawlessness. soon you will see how corrupt they really are. all they want is to dictate and control the masses that includes you Anon so that makes you the Fu*kwit haha dumbass

  8. Jacqui says:

I think brownlee pushed the process through when he saw the zeros after 174… that korero 'Anon' about boosting the economy is rubbish, becos joe blogs wont see a dime of that dosh or a drop of any drilled oil, the billions of barrels once taken, then belong to the petrobras company, argh, ignorance is blinded, deafened and muted.

To all the coasties: Kia kaha te ahi kaa, kia maia, kia mau, Ruawaipu te ukaipo

  9. 245T says:

What's up with using state controlled assets like the
NZ NAVY against their own citizens

I Thought that would be illegal to USE STATE FORCE
In their OWN Territory or Jurisdiction of NZ WATERS

I THought the NZ NAVy was to PROTECT the NZ People
and NOT Off Shore Corporate Global Organisations
like the Brazillian's drilling off the East coast of Nz

    • peri-paraihe says:

the NZ govt are corrupt as their history shows us well. the laws are not made for the entity called the govt as it is only a peice of paper. there made to control flesh and blood. Do not ever underestimate what they can do. they can do what ever they want ,when they want ,there is nothing you and i can do, except to vote them out of parliament and hopefully those elected will have some common understanding to change the corruption of the past. only then will this nation heal from the injustice subjected on maori land wealth and resources. total maori sovereignty over everything and all immigrants thats what we want now and forever……… paimarire

  10. Pere Pomana says:

Oh well the korero passed from kaumatua in my village to my dad down to me is surely showing signs of fruition. They did say after world war 2 that the next war our people in my village would be involved in would be civil. i'm not quite sure if Aotearoa would be the same afterwards. I hope that God doesn't lift his hand off us the way he did with USA in 911. The signs are sure, Kia ora Hone for making a stand, our prayers go out to you and your Whanau.

  11. Wahanui says:

Hone why arent we taking the Crown the theif to the international court why is the theif dictating the process of historical redress.
When did the theft ever run a court?

proud to have you in the house of bullsh—-t fighting for our rights. illuminating the deciept,
I blame GOVT for everything that happens in our homes the death of our kids, low expectation
    high in everthing thats negative.
